HOWELL TOWNSHIP:

Current Road/Bridge Improvement Projects:

Bowen Road- Livingston County Road Commission maintenance department project. The following is being done:

  • Limestone resurfacing
  • Limited drainage
  • Tree work

Layton Road- Livingston County Road engineering department project. The following is being done:

  • Asphalt rehabilitation

Marr Road Bridge- Livingston County Road Commission will replace the Marr Road Bridge in 2026.


Chloride Treatment:

For 2024 the Livingston County Road Commission will pay for the first application of chloride and the Township will pay for two additional treatments if needed.

Road Maintenance and Improvement Funding:

Funding sources would include federal-aid, Michigan Transportation Fund, and Township matching funds.


Howell Township Road Millage:

The 2024 Road Millage for Howell Township is .9019. The estimated funds the township will generate by this millage is $450,000.


How Are Road Projects Chosen:

Every 5 years the Howell Township Board meets with the Livingston County Road Commission Engineering Department to create a 5-year Road Asset Management Plan for the Township. This plan includes bridge projects. Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating (PASER) Standards are used to help create this plan. What Is Considered General Road Maintenance:

  • Gravel Roads
    • Grade the roads as needed
    • Chloride the road up to three times a year
  • Paved Roads
    • Annual/Bi-annual painting of the lines
    • Crack sealing is done 3-6 years after rehabilitation or reconstruction is completed
    • Pothole patching is done as needed
