About the Assessor

The Assessor is typically available to meet in-person Monday – Thursday 8am to 5pm. However it is best to call ahead to ensure schedules match. Assessing records are available 24 hours a day on the Howell Township BS&A. The Assessing Department is happy to help with information requests, land divisions, and record requests. The Assessor is also available by phone, email or in-person to informally resolve disputes before an appointment with the Board of Review is requested. When Contacted, the Assessor will get back to you within 5 business days.

Duties & Powers

  • Maintain a record of each property in the Township
  • Responsible for the assessing of real and personal property in the Township
  • File and maintain Property Transfer Affidavits and Principal Residence Exemptions
  • Issue tax identification number (property/parcel identification) and land splits/combinations
  • File Personal Property records
  • Maintain assessment records for building sketches, legal descriptions, square footage, year built, section and plat maps
  • Appeals of assessment are made to the March Board of Review
